The story is about the complex and close relationship between mother and daughter. What do they really think of each other now that they are both adults and mothers? They both struggle to claim ownership of their shared history, and perhaps for the long-awaited sense of togetherness, support, and connection.
Daughter: ”I know you're unsure of your own significance, but your image of how everything has been cannot be disturbed. You have packed up our life in a backpack that only you possess, and you hold onto it tightly."
Mother: ”We should be able to take the step now. Leave behind the performances, take off the masks as mother and daughter. But you don't want to. And I can't. I would like to hold you in my arms, but I dare not."
